Paseo Vista Recreation Area

The Paseo Vista Recreation Area is one of four dog parks in Chandler, Arizona. This is a significant upgrade from its prior life as a working landfill. The dirt slopes still cover the buried debris, but they are covered in grass (and erosion control wire). This gives dogs a place to climb and explore. You can also take the curving walking path to the top of the forty-foot mound. It has been given a face lift thanks to the wildflowers and decomposed granite transplanted there. You can walk along the roughly one mile of trails in the park. However, that’s not all it has.

The large grassy area was perfect for an archery range. Classes are held periodically, but the range is open to anyone from sunrise to sun down. The park is home to a disc golf course and picnic areas. There is a children’s playground in the Paseo Vista Recreation Area. There are slides, swings, climbing rocks and a jungle gym. There is also an educational “trash wall” to teach children what used to dominate this landscape. Parents can also discuss issues like the wells and equipment that monitor the landfill for methane production and liquid seepage from the decomposing trash.

The Paseo Vista Recreation Area sits at the northwest corner of Ocotillo Road and McQueen Road. Its address is 3850 South McQueen Road. You can take the greenbelt path to Crossbow Park a short distance to the south.

The park is two blocks east of Hamilton High School and the Hamilton Aquatic Center. It is in walking distance of apartments around the Fulton Ranch Town Center. There is no easy way to walk up to the much larger Tumbleweed Park and Tumbleweed Recreation Center to the north. That’s home to the famous Playtopia playground. That facility also has the massive Chandler Tennis Center and namesake Tumbleweed Ranch.
