Veterans Oasis Park

Veterans Oasis Park is a sprawling 113-acre park in Chandler, Arizona. It has a rural feel thanks to the 80 acres of wetlands preserved for groundwater recharge and natural habitat for Sonoran Desert wildlife. That is also why Veterans Oasis Park is home to the city of Chandler’s Environmental Education Center. That opened in 2008. Admission to the environmental education center is free.

The park has more than ponds and wetlands. It allows for fishing. The five-acre lake is home to catfish, trout, bluegill and bass. Note that there are bagging limits. You also have to have an urban fishing license to fish at the park, but that isn’t sold at the education center. Many people choose to hike the miles of trails. It even allows horseback riding, though you have to stay on the designated Equestrian trails.

The park has all the amenities of a city park. It has pavilions, playgrounds and bathrooms. You can attend classes on orienteering and birding at the environmental education center. There is a large outdoor amphitheater.

South 148 Street, East Chandler Heights Road and East Brooks Farm Road form the boundaries for the park. South Lindsay Road is a short distance to the west of the park. The environmental education center is next to the Chandler police department. South 146 Street connects to South Lindsay Road and passes through the park. This is the only way to the parking lot in front of the nature center. This is a private parking lot, and it has bike parking. Dogs are allowed but typically need to be kept on a leash. While horses are allowed, know that there is no horse trailer parking and you can’t unload horses in the park. You have to ride in and out.

This wildlife refuge is located in the middle of suburban Chandler. It is a short drive north of the Mesquite Grove Aquatic Center and Basha High School.
